Square Enix has announced that their ongoing mobile gacha game, A Certain Magical Index: Imaginary Fest, will have a new original story on June 29, 2023. The author of the light novel series, Kazuma Kamachi, has penned this narrative, and it has been confirmed to take place after the events of the anime.
In fact, this new story is stated to take place between New Testament Volumes 11 and 12. For those unaware, the anime adaption of A Certain Magical Index has only covered up to the end of World War III, the entirety of The Old Testament, the first series of light novels. New Testament and Genesis Testament, the second and third light novel series, respectively, have not been adapted in the anime.
This chosen placement would put the new original storyline after the Othinus arc and near the beginning of the World Rejector Kamisato arc.
Moreover, the new narrative will be fully voiced, with a new character drawn by Kiyotaka Haimura, the franchise’s original character designer. A special countdown effect will also start appearing in-game from June 19 onward, teasing dialogue from the update.
