The Dave Cox Comedy Magic Show

Even though Dave and his evil hypnotist monkey have performed all over the country, he has never worked anywhere near Chicago. This is your chance to spend time with a great comedy magician, straight off Broadway (he was the magical star on Bellomania in NY this last spring!)

Dave Cox is hilarious. And we're not just saying that because this is a quickly thrown together Web Page. He's very, very funny. More than that, he'll fool the pants off of you. And then he'll very politely give them back, unlike some of those weaselly trouser stealing magicians I'm sure you've heard so much about.

Dave’s quick wit, spellbinding magic, and side-splitting comedy gets your entire audience involved in a smart, high energy, fast paced show, filled with magic, hilarity, and, occasionally, a real live bunny rabbit. You will laugh, gasp, and rub your eyes in that comical way cartoon characters do.

About Dave Cox

D ave is just back from a run on Broadway, and a whirlwind tour of Europe. But, he has been performing his Mischievous Magical Mayhem professionally for 20 plus years, starting as a wee lad in a teeny tiny top hat, and going on to win multiple awards, direct other magicians’ shows, and perform all over this great country and abroad. When he was only 10 years old, he took out an ad in the local paper: “Dave Cox: Boy Magician.” He still occasionally gets a call.

He was awarded the prestigious magician’s award, “Best in the Midwest” at the Midwest Magic Jubilee when he was only 16. He’s pretty much been riding that ever since. He continued to perform through high school and into college, working corporate events, banquets, lodges, women’s groups, street fairs, comedy clubs, night clubs, renaissance fairs, and wherever else someone wanted to be delighted and amazed.

Eventually, Dave’s talents brought him to Los Angeles, and he became a proud member of the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, where he still performs regularly. In addition to doing multiple commercials, films, and extensive voice over work, Dave is a professional writer and a skilled improviser, having performed with the Groundlings, Improv Olympic, ComedySportz, bang!, The Second City, Opening Night: The Improvised Musical, The Spontaneous Shakespeare Company, The Liquid Radio Players, and ACME Comedy Theater. This training and experience is part of what infuses his show with his unique brand of spontaneous charm and wit.

Dave was awarded the Bass Ale Red Triangle Comedy Award in 2004. In 2005 Dave was honored to be a nominee for “Best Parlour Magician” at the world famous Magic Castle. A multiple nominee, Dave was awarded “Best Improv Performer” at ACME Comedy Theater in 2006, 2009 and 2010. In 2011, Dave was awarded the trophy for “Best Children’s Performer” for his work with kids around the country. He was recently nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his work on Broadway. Dave also has an Emmy. But he doesn’t think he earned it.

In 2005, Dave became the resident magician at Sea World, San Diego. Continuing his aquatic adventures, Dave set sail and traveled the world for Crystal, Norwegian, and Princess Cruise Lines, performing for over 70,000 people off the coasts of Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Jamaica, Italy, and Greece in his first year alone. He is also a highly sought after performer at corporate events, amazing and delighting companies like IBM, Apple, AT&T, RJR Nabisco, and performing at private events for celebrities as varied as Pink, Dick VanPatten, Lucy Liu, and Tom Cruise.

On television, Dave has done major commercials and campaigns for companies such as Red Robin, Panasonic, Arby’s, Kitchenaid and many others. He hosted the popular show “Arena” on the G-4 Network, and, from 2008 to 2011, he was the host of MTV’s hit show “Is She Really Going Out With Him.” A handy guy, Dave was the hands for Full Tilt Poker, and also the hands of Dana Carvey in an award winning Lays chips commercial. Utilizing his experience in comedy, magic, and TV, Dave served as a consultant on VH-1’s hit series “Celebracadabara” and, in 2009, brought three of his original magical performances to “Masters of Illusion.”

He’s come a long way for a farm boy from Illinois. Dave loves to bring magic into people lives. It’s about the jaw dropping, stomach clenching, amazing excitement that you get when the impossible happens, right there, right in front of you. That’s what it’s about. It’s about magic.

Tales from the Fifth Dimension

If there’s one thing the pandemic has done, it’s given me plenty of time to reflect and look back on my career in magic with Fifth Dimension. We’ve had many varied and fun adventures through magic over the years (with many more to come, I hope) and I thought some of our tales may be of interest.

I plan to give you a flavour of some of our escapades over the years in a series of articles. They are a random mix of stories about places we’ve been, people we’ve met, things we’ve done, and they’re not in any chronological order – just recollections as they’ve come to me.

The Magic Castle (2012)

It was Paul Wilson (a brilliant magician, world renowned expert on cheating & con games and writer and presenter of The Real Hustle) who approached us in 2011 and said that he was putting together a Scottish week at the Magic Castle in Hollywood in 2012. “Would you be interested in being one of the acts?” he asked.

Being asked to perform at the Magic Castle is not something that happens to you every day, so after we picked ourselves up, I must admit that it was a bit of a no-brainer and – of course – we said yes. We were booked to do three stage shows per night in the Palace of Mystery theatre for seven nights – a 15-minute spot in each show.

And so it was that we headed off to Los Angeles on the 3rd of February 2012. There were many highlights of that trip – some of them non magic related.

One Direction

We found out that One Direction was travelling to LA on the same plane as us. This was the group’s first trip to America (doing a tour of radio stations) and when we landed, we found ourselves next to them waiting for our bags to arrive on the conveyor belt.

They were nice lads who were happy to chat – but we weren’t allowed to take any photos. As it happened, our and their bags were the last to come off the belt and we headed for the exit, leaving them with their entourage.

What we didn’t know was that their fans were waiting for them outside: thousands of them lining the exit ways, hanging over barriers at different levels in the airport.

As we entered the first part of the corridor, we were the only passengers in sight. Some of the fans shouted at us asking if we were with the band. We said no, but they were not far behind us. Well – this set them off and the screaming started, and we quickly realised that if we kept saying they’re just behind us as we went out of the airport, we could keep the screaming going.

And that is how Jeff and I entered Los Angeles to the sound of thousands of screaming girls. It was unreal. I suppose we could say that for one night only we were One Direction’s warm up act.

Scottish Week

Our first trip to the Castle was on the Sunday night, the day before we were due to perform our first shows. There was a tribute to one of the members taking place and there was a veritable who’s who of magic everywhere you looked – I must admit that didn’t do much to settle the nerves, but it was good to get a lay of the land and see where we were due to perform.

We also found out that although it was billed a Scottish week, the bill wasn’t all Scottish performers. In fact, we were the only Scottish act performing in the Palace of Mystery.

Our fellow performers were Tom Ogden, who was compering and doing a spot, and Scott Land, the lead puppeteer on Team America: World Police. Some of you will have met Scott when he later came over to Aberdeen and did some shows at The Drummond Varieties and visited us at the AMS .

Tom, however, only lasted one night as he fell ill, and Pop Hadyn came in as a replacement. As it happened, Pop only lasted one night too as he was rushed to hospital with kidney problems and Dave Cox was drafted in as his substitute.

By this time, we were beginning to get a bit of a complex and wondered if we were some sort of jinx, but luckily Dave survived the One Night Hoodoo™ and performed for the rest of the week.

Other Scottish performers who were there that week performing in the Close-up Gallery or the Parlour of Prestidigitation included Paul Wilson, Gary Middleton and Dave Forrest.

The Palace is a lovely little theatre (only 150 seats) and the audiences are great. They are all magic lovers and there to have a good time. Throughout the week there were many famous magical faces in the audience and many of them came backstage after the show to hang out and chat.

Pet Sounds

However, one of the people I enjoyed meeting the most is probably not that well known, unless you’re in the know. His name is Tony Asher. He’s an amateur magician but is best known for being a lyricist and working with the Beach Boys.

It was Tony that, with Brian Wilson, wrote most of the songs on their famous Pet Sounds album. Another down-to-earth guy with a fascinating past and great stories.

Of course, as we were only working in the evenings, we were also able to get quite a bit of sightseeing done and took full advantage of the many tourist attractions in and around LA.

Scott and his wife Lisa took us under their wing and looked after us, as did Dave Cox, taking us out and about and introducing us to many of their friends which was a great help.

All in all, it was a fantastic experience, and we must have done something right as we were invited back again a couple of years later – but more of that in another Tale from the Fifth Dimension.

In the meantime contact us to find out how to book a show featuring the magic we performed at the Magic Castle.

Comedy Magic Lecture

Dave and his evil hypnotist monkey have performed all over the world, from the Magic Castle to Malaysia, from Masters of Illusion to a run on Broadway, on cruise ships, on television, in theaters, and for celebrities at fancy, fancy parties.

He is renowned for his fun, improvisational style, and his spontaneous lunacy. But, in the words of one reviewer "underneath the laughter, if you look closely, you will notice that his show has some insanely strong magic, and he plays with his audience like a maestro.” He uses his extensive improv background performing and teaching at Improv Olympic, ACME, Second City, and the Improv Shakespeare Company to create a show WITH his audience, and Johnny Thompson called him "one of the world’s foremost practitioners of the Instant Stooge."

Dave’s lecture will consist of stage routines filled with comedy and magic taken directly from his working repertoire - the hows and whys of what he does in order to bring his audience into the show, and make them part of it. He will be giving the real work on dealing with your audience, handling volunteers, injecting comedy into what you already do, and the proper way to do the baby gag. It will be a great time!

Reviews for "Exploring the Benefits of Daily Charme Magic White Chrome"

1. Emily - 2/5 - I was really excited to try out the Daily Charme Magic White Chrome Power, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. The application process was quite messy and it took a lot of effort to achieve a smooth, even finish. Additionally, the color didn't look as vibrant as it did in the promotional photos. I was quite disappointed with the overall performance of this product.
2. Mark - 1/5 - I have to say, the Daily Charme Magic White Chrome Power was a complete waste of money for me. The product claims to deliver a high-quality chrome finish, but in reality, it turned out to be a dull and lackluster shade. The application process was also quite tricky, even though I followed the instructions carefully. Overall, I expected much better from this product and ended up being extremely dissatisfied.
3. Sarah - 2/5 - The Daily Charme Magic White Chrome Power was simply not worth it. Despite following the instructions correctly, I couldn't achieve the shiny, reflective chrome look that I was hoping for. The finish ended up looking quite streaky and uneven. I also experienced issues with the durability as the polish chipped off within a day of application. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone looking for a long-lasting, high-quality chrome effect.
