Appearance: Maureen's golden brown hair is pulled into a neat bob, the waviness coming somewhat naturally and with a little help from hair shampoos. Her eyes are hazel, and bright with excitement. She is a taller girl, around 5'7", but is still quite short compared to her tree-like brothers and father. Unlike the rest of her family, she has much lighter hair. When she was young it was very blonde but it has since darkened into its current color.
Personality: Maureen is wide-eyed and bubbly, interested in many aspects of witchery. She is a tactile learner, meaning she prefers objects she can hold and study, and learns best through exposure and touch. She is about to come of age among Witches and is excited to actually experience both the human and supernatural world’s she is exposed to.
Bio: Maureen’s mother was a witch, but sadly died of tuberculosis a few months after Maureen was born. She is the youngest of 7, with her father working by the docks and her Aunt Caroline taking care of the rest of the children until they were grown. The eldest two are boys who traveled to Europe to study primordial creatures, with the next being a daughter who is happily married and lives in Chicago. The last 3, 2 boys and Maureen’s older sister, Hannah, live in a small apartment in Brooklyn with Maureen. Hannah is training to be a potion brewer and the brothers are hoping to open a tea shop to cover for her. They live a happy, if simple, life, on the weekdays. But once the weekend hits, the Hughes are out on the town. Having recently turned 17, Maureen is finally old enough to go out with them as well.
Magical Specialty: Talismanic/Runic Magic - Magic practiced through specific carvings and objects. Runes are the written language of magic, and is much more primal and unrefined compared to spellcasting through spoken word. Talismans are used as focuses or concentrators of magic, and the study of an object’s specific magical proficiencies is what would later lead to the art of potion brewing in Witch history.

Surface level, Sasha seems like a nice guy. Helpful, kind, soft spoken, he seems like the type of person you would be surprised tried summoning a demon. That is, until he gets annoyed by something. He maintains a calm, polite, soft spoken tone of voice all while becoming suddenly becoming a huge douchebag. It can be very off setting to anyone he's talking to. Even when he's actually angry, he generally remains calm and polite, though his words themselves will suddenly become outright derogatory and aggressive. When angry, he'll generally resort to words instead of violence.
An easy way to get Sasha to do something is money. He'll do basically anything for the right price- but if he doesn't think you're paying enough, he'll just as soon turn you away.
Physical Description
Sasha stands at about 5'7, making him an average kind of short for a guy, which is pretty much completely unremarkable. He has blond hair that he normally keeps haphazardly pushed out of his face. Really, it's like he started to style it and then gave the fuck up.

Sasha was born in the Netherlands, the younger in a set of identical twins. Shortly after their birth, their parents moved from the Netherlands Coming from a family of Witches on both sides, it was only natural that he inherited magic from them and grew up around magic. The thing is that Sasha was, and still is, bad at most forms of magic. Sure, he might be the best diviner and telepath you'll find, but should he try much else? Fuck. No. Anything more complicated than lighting his cigarette on fire should not be left to him. He has all sorts of potential due to his blood line, he just. isn't capable of using it properly. Really, no matter how hard he tries he just isn't capable of using magic properly.
Anyway, back to what we came here for. A history. Before Sasha was even three years old, his mother had given birth to a third child- it was tradition in his mother's side of the family, and she had no intention of disappointing. By the time Sasha and Markus were thirteen, they had six younger siblings. How would their parents take care of so many children, though? Well, their mother was a midwife, and their father owned a pharmacy by the time they were five- with a little help from magic, they were never lacking in money.
Due to his lack of talent in actually using magic, he started trying more and more dangerous magic to one up the rest of his siblings as he got older. Sure, he loved them and was happy that the rest of them were actually excelling, but he wanted to be able to do something impressive as well. His parents were impressed when he could do the simplest things, but they were always more impressed by what his siblings could do. He was jealous.
This is what led to him trying to summon a demon when he was nineteen. Looking back, it wasn't his best decision, and maybe he should've picked something that didn't bring a literal hellspawn into the human realm. but at the time it seemed like his best option to actually get noticed. Something went wrong in binding the demon he was summoning, and gave it just enough leeway to try possessing him.
That thread of leeway wasn't enough for the demon to fully possess him, as they'd both figure out soon after. Sasha ended up with an unwelcome guest in his body, and the demon ended up in a vessel he couldn't figure out how to leave, due to Sasha binding it to himself through the summoning. Given that they had only just been trapped in a body together, the first thing they did was fight for control over the body. Sasha walked away from this endeavor covered in bruises, with a black eye, and a demon screaming endlessly in his head.
His family was, of course, concerned when he came home, but he wasn't about to tell them the truth about what had happened. How could he? Not only had he done something taboo, but he had failed to do it properly and ended up with a hellspawn in his head. Instead, he lied. A fight in an alleyway. No, he hadn't gotten a good look at any of their faces. No, it hadn't been a bunch of queers trying to rape him. No, he didn't want his mother to look at his injuries. He'd much rather just go to bed.
He didn't sleep until the demon, whom he dubbed "Ezekiel" after a bit, stopped his incessant screaming, which was a full two days later. The day after Sasha actually managed to get some sleep, Ezekiel managed to take control of his body for a while. Sasha eventually got it back from him, but this was enough of a scare for him to decide that he couldn't stay with his family anymore. Ezekiel could hurt them.
Without word to his parents or siblings, Sasha left London as quickly as he could, and ended up in America, of all places, after a while. Currently, he's living in Marie's house. While he and Ezekiel have come to peace and an agreement about what can and can't be done with Sasha's body, he still hasn't told any of the other Coven members about the Demon he's stuck with. Instead, he's settled for occasionally looking like he's schizophrenic when the two of them get in a really bad argument. Every coven's gotta have their token crazy guy, right?

Reviews for "The Talisman of Chaplemagne: A Portkey to Other Realms"
1. John - 2 stars - I was really excited to read "Talisman of Chaplemagne" based on all the hype it received, but I was left sorely disappointed. The plot was confusing and poorly executed, with too many unnecessary subplots that didn't add anything to the overall story. The characters were also poorly developed, making it difficult to connect with any of them. Overall, I found the book to be a tedious and unenjoyable read.
2. Sarah - 1 star - I don't understand the appeal of "Talisman of Chaplemagne" at all. The writing was mediocre at best, with cliché dialogue and predictable twists. The pacing was incredibly slow, and I found myself struggling to stay engaged throughout the entire book. The world-building was lackluster, and the fantasy elements felt forced and underdeveloped. I would not recommend this book to anyone looking for a captivating fantasy read.
3. Mark - 3 stars - While "Talisman of Chaplemagne" had some interesting ideas and concepts, it failed to deliver on its potential. The prose was overly descriptive, with unnecessary details that bogged down the story. The author also seemed to rely heavily on tropes and clichés, making the plot predictable and lacking in originality. I think with some better editing and a clearer focus, this book could have been much better. But as it stands, I found it to be an average read at best.
4. Emily - 2 stars - I had high hopes for "Talisman of Chaplemagne", but it fell short of my expectations. The pacing was incredibly slow, with long stretches of exposition that didn't add much to the overall story. The dialogue felt stilted and unrealistic, making it difficult for me to connect with the characters.
