Acclaimed juice bar from San Antonio to open in ex-Dallas vegan grocery

What was once the home of Dallas' only vegan grocery will become a juice bar from San Antonio. Called Squeezers Juice Bar, it'll open at 196 W. Davis St. #120, in the storefront previously occupied by Lucky Mouth, the vegan grocery store that closed in early 2023.

Founded by former pro basketball player Keith Simpson, Squeezers Juice Bar debuted in San Antonio in 2017, and has earned raves for its juice, smoothies, and smoothie bowls.

The Dallas location is from husband-and-wife Aaron and Janay Shandy; Aaron is Simpson's cousin. Aaron also brings valuable hospitality experience from being around seafood and soul food restaurants owned by members of his family.

"Being healthy has always been a thing for us, and Janay is into fitness," Aaron says.

"Squeezers is well known in San Antonio, and bringing it up here was something we wanted to do," Janay says.

They're hoping to be open sometime in November.

Landing the Lucky Mouth space turned out to be a stroke of good fortune.

"It worked out so well because we'd been looking for a space, and they wanted someone to take over the space," she says.

Squeezers earns accolades because they're transparent about their ingredients, and their ingredients are all produce, either fresh or frozen, versus some juice chains that use ice and powders.

They also have inventive flavors such as their signature juice with beet, pineapple, watermelon, grapefruit, and ginger. One smoothie, called The Meal, has frozen banana, frozen blueberry, frozen strawberry, raw oats, chia seed, and oat milk.

At the Dallas location, they'll do fresh-squeezed juices, smoothies, bowls, and shots but will also offer healthy meals to order and to-go including vegan items for former Lucky Mouth customers, and non-vegan items such as a salmon salad wrap.

"We’re going to offer some grab-and-go items that cater to the area, whether it's residents in the buildings nearby or patrons of the pilates place next-door," he says.

"We want to provide something for everybody who walks in," he says.

Reviews for "The art of stage production in Surf Curse's live performances"

1. Sarah - 2 stars
I was really disappointed with Surf Curse's live performance list. The band seemed to lack energy and enthusiasm throughout the whole show. The lead singer's vocals were often off-key and it was difficult to understand the lyrics of the songs. The band members also seemed disorganized and frequently had to stop and restart songs. Overall, it was a lackluster performance that didn't live up to my expectations.
2. Alex - 1 star
I have to say, Surf Curse's live performance list was a complete letdown. The band seemed to be going through the motions without any real passion or connection to the audience. The sound mixing was also incredibly poor, making it difficult to hear the vocals and instruments clearly. The lack of effort and overall unprofessionalism was evident and made for a very underwhelming experience. I wouldn't recommend seeing them live based on this performance.

While I am a fan of Surf Curse's music, their live performance list was a disappointment. The band's energy felt forced and unnatural, and it seemed like they were just going through the motions instead of truly enjoying themselves on stage. The sound quality was subpar, with muffled vocals and instruments drowning each other out. The lack of stage presence from the band made for a lackluster show that left me wanting more. I hope they can improve their live performances in the future.
